News: Giant Dujković targeted by Partizan

Reigning Serbian champions Partizan are looking for a new towering centre. After Slavko Vraneš left to Russian side UNICS Kazan, the Black and Whites are now turning to Marko Dujković. The young 2.26m tall player was in the USA some months ago in order to try to get a NCAA scholarship, but it now looks he'll be back to Europe, as another Serbian team, Metalac Valjevo, is also reported to be interested in the services of the 19-year-old.
Before heading crossing the Atlantic to showcase his skills, the FYR of Macedonia born Dujković played in lower Serbian divisions.
Known for developing young players and especially big men, Adriatic champions Partizan promoted assistant Vlada Jovanović to the head coach position for next season after the departure of Duško Vujošević to CSKA Moscow.

News: Klobučar more than willing to move to Partizan

Rarely is the is the will of a player and a team to work together so declared. Known for its ability of transforming young promising players into established stars, Partizan wants to get Jaka Klobučar to Belgrade and the Slovenian wants it more than anything. Negociations between the two parties are well advanced and unless something unusual gets in the way, the 22-year-old guard will land in Serbia in the next two weeks.
Klobučar still has two years remaining in his contract with Olimpija, but given the poor financial situation the club is in, it won't oppose a move. Also the fact that previous coach Duško Vujošević is not with Partizan anymore doesn't make it less appealing for the Slovenian national team player, who believes new coach Vlada Jovanović basically works in the same system as his mentor.
In a career that began in Krka Novo Mesto in 2003, Klobučar later wore the jerseys of Slovan and powerhouse Olimpija. Last season he averaged 5.9 points, 2.2 rebounds and 1.3 assists over 27 Adriatic League games and 2.3 points per game in the Euroleague.

UPDATE: As expected, Klobučar signed a three-year deal with Partizan.

News: Siena and Partizan repeat as champions in Italy and Serbia (Notícia: Siena e Partizan de novo campeões de Itália e Sérvia)

In Italy and Serbia the new champions are the old champions, especially in the case of Partizan. Siena (pictured) won the Lega A title for the fourth consecutive year, something that did not happen since 1960 with Milano. The champions swept Milano in the playoff finals and won game 3 fair and square by 69 to 93. Terrell McIntyre led the champions with 28 points, followed by Romain Sato with 16 and six rebounds, Kšyštof Lavrinovič with 15 and Shaun Stonerook with 11 and six boards. For the runner-up, Jonas Mačiulis netted 13 points, while Mason Rocca (six rebounds) and Stefano Macinelli added 12 apiece, Chris Monroe 10 and Mike Hall eight and six rebounds.
On Friday Partizan conquered it's ninth consecutive championship without even playing the third game of the playoff finals. The opposing team, Hemofarm Vršac, refused to attend the game due to the brawl between players occured two days earlier in game 2 that led to the ejection of a total of 18 players, leaving just three for each side on court to finish the game (81-86 for Partizan). As by the rules, Partizan won the third game 20-0 and proclaimed champions.

News: Partizan Adriatic champion with a buzzer beater (Notícia: Partizan campeão adriático no último segundo)

Like last year, Partizan faced Cibona in the Adriatic league final and beat the Croatians. But this time there was a twist to it in the end. In the final seconds of a hard-fought overtime, a three-pointer from the Croatian side seemed to have granted them the title, as there were only 0.6 seconds on the clock. However, on the other side there was small forward Dušan Kecman, who with a mid-court buzzer beater (see video) set the final score 74-75 and handed the Serbians their fourth consecutive title. Many recalled legendary Saša Đorđević's three-pointer that crowned Partizan European champion in 1992.
Cibona's Marko Tomas was named the MVP of the game scoring 31 points, the same amount as Jamont Gordon. For the champions the topscorer was Aleks Marić with 14 points (adding seven rebounds), followed by Lawrence Roberts with less one and 8 rebounds and three steals. Kecman ended the game with 10 points.

Miroslav Raduljica could be leaving FMP Železnik and move to Partizan for next season. The 2.13m centre has reportely agreed terms with the Serbian champion after the Radivoj Korać Cup final played last weekend between the two teams, with Raduljica ending MVP. If the deal goes through, Partizan will acquire the 22-year-old for free, as his current contract expires by the end of the season. Maccabi Tel Aviv was also in the run for the young Serbian.
A member of the senior Serbian national team which grabbed the silver medal at Eurobasket last year, Raduljica began is career with Reflex Belgrade and played also in Čačak. In FMP since 2005, he has been averaging a team-leading 15.1 points and 7.2 rebounds per game this season in the EuroChallenge.

Former NBA player Lawrence Roberts is one step shy from making Partizan's roster. The Serbian club is negociating with the American and he could sign in the upcoming days if not today. Curiously enough, the 27-year-old forward played last season for arch-rivals Crvena Zvezda, averaging 10.9 points, 7.7 rebounds, 1.5 steals and 1 assist per game in the Eurocup.
Roberts, who had been with the Indiana Pacers in a summer camp, started his career in the Mississippi State University and playing in the NBA for the Memphis Grizzlies. He also had a short stint with Olympiacos, but he never made his debut for the team.

Serbian champions Partizan completed their guard positions with the acquisition of point guard Bob McCalebb. The 24-year-old American will replace Milt Palacio, who was dismissed due a week ago, and will have his second professional year, after playing for Turkish side Mersin last season. He managed to help the team to reach a playoff appearence for the first time, averaging 17.4 points, 4.6 assists, 3.3 rebounds and 2.7 steals over 30 Turkish league games.
McCalebb will make his debut in Partizan's first Euroleague game next week against Unicaja Málaga.

After one season abroad Serbian Dušan Kecman will be returning to his country and his former team Partizan. The 31-year-old didn't have the best of experiences individually with the green jersey, although he became Euroleague, A1 and Greek cup champion last season. In Euroleague off the bench he managed to score 2.1 points and grab 1.2 rebounds, far away from 10.9 and 5 in the 2007-2008 season with Partizan.
This will be the third season of the guard/forward with the black and white jersey with which he won four Serbian league titles.
The player is currently with the Serbia national team preparing for Eurobasket 2009.

Partizan's coach Duško Vujošević was named the best Euroleague coach of 2009 and won, therefore, the Alexander Gomelskiy Coach of the Year Trophy. The 50-year-old Montenegrin, who has been with Partizan since 2002 for the second time, led the Belgrade team for the second consecutive year to the competition's playoff quarter-finals, again with a team composed mostly by youngsters.
Currently the coach of the Montenegro national team, Vujošević's work had such dimension that he became the first to get the trophy without winning the Euroleague title.

In a selection made by coaches, Partizan's Novica Veličković was named the best young player of the Euroleague in the 2008-2009 season, succeeding Danilo Gallinari. The 22-year-old forward led the "black and whites" to the playoff quarter-finals for the second consecutive year, topscoring the team with 11.5 points per game and being second rebound-wise (5.1 on average). Moreover, in the youth rich team, the Serbian was among the best three players in steals, assists and blocks and was among the best 25 players regarding points scored and rebounds. He also named the MVP for the month of February.
Recently linked with a move to Russian powerhouse CSKA Moscow, the 2.05m Serbian averaged 11.5 points, 5.1 rebounds, 1.8 assists and nearly 1 steal in 19 games.
The second spot of the choice belonged to forward Ersan İlyasova (Barcelona) and Spanish Sergio Llull (Real Madrid), while the third place was for another Partizan player, Milenko Tepić.

The Serbian team conquered yesterday their third consecutive Adriatic League championship. In an uneven game, Partizan easily beat Cibona from Croatia 63-49. Although the Zagreb team managed to lose just by 3 points in the second period and win the third by 7, the first and the last ones were disastrous, as the team managed to score only 9 and 6 points, respectively. Starlet Novica Veličković led the "black and whites" with 17 points and 8 rebounds in 25 minutes, while teammate Stephane Lasme added 11 points and 6 rebounds. On the other side, Alan Anderson topscored the match with 22 points and added 5 steals, being helped by Jared Homan, who scored 11 points.
In the path to the final, the Serbian champion had downed rivals Crvena Zvezda 64-58 in the semi-final.

(O clube sérvio conquistou ontem o terceiro título consecutivo na Liga do Adriático. Num jogo desigual, o Partizan derrotou com facilidade o Cibona da Croácia por 63-49. News: Partizan NBA exhibition games (Notícia: Jogos amigáveis do Partizan na NBA)

The Serbian champion has been invited to play two friendly games with NBA teams. The games are scheduled to next October and the Phoenix Suns and the Denver Nuggets will be the clubs the "black and whites" will face. Partizan's coach Duško Vujošević described the invitation as a sign of recognition of the club's performances in the Euroleague in the last two seasons and the successful work in developing and teaching young players, who are already being targeted by NBA teams.
This will be the first time a Serbian team will play against NBA teams and one of the few of a club from former Yugoslavia.

(O campeão sérvio foi convidado a disputar dois jogos particulares com equipas da NBA. Os encontros estão marcados para Outubro próximo e os Phoenix Suns e Denver Nuggets serão as equipas que os "alvinegros" defrontarão. Kyrylo Fesenko could be joining Partizan for the next season. The Ukranian centre, currently in the NBA with the Utah Jazz, is rumoured to have signed a pre-contract with the "black and whites". Buried in a deep big men roster (Mehmet Okur, Paul Millsap, Andrei Kirilenko, Kosta Koufos, Carlos Boozer) Fesenko played just 18 games so far this season for the Jazz, scoring 2.4 points and posting 1.8 rebounds as average, being the weakest tall player in the club and, therefore, reasonable if he's released.

News: Partizan set attendance record (Notícia: Partizan estabelece recorde de assistência)

Yesterday's Euroleague round was meant to be historical in Europe in terms of attendance. Partizan moved from the mythical Hala Pionir to the new Belgrade Arena for this round and expectations came true: the arena filled with 22.567 spectators, most of them Partizan fans, as the home team beat Panathinaikos 63-56. Partizan coach Duško Vujošević highlighted the fans commitment with the team and emphasised the obligation Partizan has towards those who support it.
The combination of so much fans and the atmosphere generated by the innumerous "grobari" (the undertakers, Partizan's hardcore fans) created a crazy night in the words of Partizan player Jan Veselý, who admitted to have never seen anything like it.
The previous attendance record in Europe had been set in 2000 with 18.518 supporters in a German league game between Baskets Bonn and Alba Berlin at KölnArena. The world record is probably the one set in 1968 in the Saporta Cup final which took place at the Kallimarmaro Stadium, where 80.000 people inside and 40.000 outside watched AEK play against Slavia Prague.

O Partizan mudou-se do mítico Hala Pionir para a nova Belgrade Arena para esta jornada e as expectactivas confirmaram-se: o pavilhão encheu-se com 22,567 espectadores, a maioria dos quais adeptos do Partizan, tendo o clube batido o Panathinaikos por 63-56. O treinador do Partizan, Duško Vujošević, realçou a dedicação dos fãs para com a equipa e sublinhou o dever do clube para com aqueles que o apoiam.
A combinação de tantos fãs com a atmosfera gerada pelos inúmeros "grobari" (os cangalheiros, fãs incondicionais do Partizan) criou uma noite de loucos, nas palavras do jogador do Partizan Jan Veselý, que admitiu nunca ter presenciado algo semelhante.
O anterior recorde de assistência na Europa tinha sido estabelecido em 2000, com 18,518 espectadores num jogo da liga alemã entre o Baskets Bona e o Alba Berlim na KölnArena. O recorde mundial teve provavelmente lugar em 1968 na final da Taça Saporta, que se realizou no estádio Kallimarmaro, onde 80,000 pessoas no interior e 40,000 no exterior assistiram ao jogo entre o AEK e o Slavia Praga.)
