News: USA becomes first U17 world champion

The USA national team won all eight games played and claimed the first edition of the U17 World Championship. The Americans defeated previously lossless Poland 111-80 in the final, with the runner-up handling the champions for only 18 minutes, as at halftime they were already losing by 17 (58-41).
James McAdoo led the winners with 20 points, 7 rebounds and 3 steals, while Bradley Beal (named tournament MVP) scored 19 points and grabbed 5 rebounds, Michael Gilchrist 16 points and Anthony Wroten (5 steals) less three. For Poland, Tomasz Gielo netted a game-high 21 points and grabbed 5 rebounds, followed by Mateusz Ponitka (3 steals) and Filip Matczak with 14 points apiece and Piotr Niedźwiedzki with 10.
Canada won the bronze medal with a 83-81 in over Lithuania.

News: U17 World Championship draw (Notícia: Sorteio do Campeonato do Mundo Sub-17)

The draw for the first U17 World Championship was made yesterday in Hamburg (Germany), the host city. The competition's preliminary round will begin on 2nd July, with the top four in each group advancing to the quarter-finals. The final will be played on 11th July. The tournament will feature some of the best young prospects around the world, namely James McAdoo (USA), Tauras Jogėla (Lithuania), Nenad Miljenović (Serbia), Kevin Pangos (Canada), Przemysław Karnowski (Poland) and Jaime Fernández (Spain), among others.

(O sorteio da primeira edição do Campeonato do Mundo Sub-17 teve lugar ontem, em Hamburgo (Alemanha), a cidade anfitriã. A fase preliminar da competição terá início a 2 de Julho, com as primeiras quatro equipas de cada grupo a avançarem para os quartos-de-final. A final será disputada a 11 de Julho. O torneio vai contar com algumas das melhores jovens promessas de todo o mundo, nomeadamente James McAdoo (EUA), Tauras Jogėla (Lituânia), Nenad Miljenović (Sérvia), Kevin Pangos (Canadá), Przemysław Karnowski (Polónia) e Jaime Fernández (Espanha), entre outros.)
