In the Euroleague annual awards, for the first time since 2005, Dimitris Diamantidis did not get the Best Defender Trophy. CSKA Moscow's Viktor Khryapa (pictured) was named for the distinction after averaging a league-leading two steals and 5.5 defensive rebounds per game, being fifth in total rebounds (6.3). The forward also added one block per game to his displays. Barcelona's Ricky Rubio and Panathinaikos' Diamantidis were second and third in the designation, respectively.

Less than one year after announcing his retirement from basketball, guard Jason Williams is ready to return to play in the NBA. The Orlando Magic have secured the services of the 33-year-old, who hasn't played the entire last season. After being signed by the Los Angeles Clippers before the start of last season, he didn't even make his debut with team, calling it quits shortly after for supposedly family reasons. The Magic's general manager justified the hiring as a way to add "depth and leadership" to the team.
Having played for the Sacramento Kings, Memphis Grizzlies and the Miami Heat, Williams recorded 8.8 points, 4.6 assists, 1.9 rebounds and 1.2 steals per game in his last season.

With this award, the 23-year-old joins legends such as Hakeem Olajuwon, Dikembe Mutombo, David Robinson or Michael Jordan, who also were rewarded for their defensive skills.
LeBron James (Cleveland Cavaliers) came second and Dwayne Wade (Miami Heat) was third in the voting. Kevin Garnett of the Boston Celtics was the winner of the award last year.
