News: Letuni to undergo operation (Notícia: Letuni será operado)

Congolese giant Bienvenue Letuni will undergo a brain surgery in January in order to remove a small tumour. This operation is intended to stop the growth (he already stands 2.24m tall) of the 15-year-old and allow him to start developing his basketball skills. Joventut, the Spanish club which ended up tieing Letuni, after some trials also with Baskonia, will pay for all of costs of the treatment and follow the player closely after the procedure. The operation will be similar to that made to Roberto Dueñas or Gheorghe Mureşan, who also suffered from gigantism.
Possessing a wingspan of 2.40m, Letuni started playing basketball just eight months ago after he stood out in the Democratic Republic of Congo obviously because of his height and age. After the surgery Joventut will ponder if Letuni is ready to play in the younger teams of the club.

Esta operação destina-se a interromper o crescimento (que já alcança os 2,24 m) do jovem de 15 anos e permitir o início do desenvolvimento das suas aptidões para o basquetebol. O Joventut, clube espanhol que acabou por contratar Letuni, depois de alguns testes também junto do Baskonia, vai pagar todos as despesas do tratamento e seguir de perto o jogador após o processo. A operação será semelhante à realizada a Roberto Dueñas ou Gheorghe Mureşan, que também padeciam de gigantismo.
Com uma envergadura de 2,40 m, Letuni começou a jogar basquetebol apenas há oito meses, depois de se ter destacado na República Democrática do Congo devido, obviamente, à sua altura e idade. Após a cirurgia, o Joventut irá ponderar a inclusão de Letuni nas camadas jovens do clube.)

News: Joventut makes 19 three-pointers (Notícia: Joventut converte 19 triplos)

And a record it was. Joventut converted one more three pointer than the previous top mark they held (together with Barcelona and Fuenlabrada) and have now established a new Spanish league record with 19 three-point shots made in a game. The deed happened yesterday in the ninth round of ACB during the game against Murcia which Joventut won 83 to 73 in overtime. The total of three-point shots made by "La Penya" was of 44, less two than the record set by Barcelona last season.
Latvian Kristaps Valters, who had also collaborated in the previous record while playing for Fuenlabrada, was the most inspired from behind the arc making 6 of 9 attempts. Behind him Serbian Uroš Tripković converted less one in equal number of attempts. The other contributors were Luka Bogdanović (3/7), Clay Tucker (3/9), David Jelinek (1/3) and Pere Tomàs (1/3).

O feito teve lugar ontem, na nona jornada da ACB, no decorrer do jogo contra o Murcia, ganho pelo Joventut por 83-73 após prolongamento. O total de lançamentos de três pontos realizados pela "Penya" foi de 44, menos dois do que o recorde alcançado pelo Barcelona na época passada.
O letão Kristaps Valters, que também tinha colaborado no recorde anterior ao serviço do Fuenlabrada, foi o mais inspirado da linha de três, convertendo 6 lançamentos de 9 tentados. Imediatamente a seguir, o sérvio Uroš Tripković converteu menos um em igual número de tentativas. Os restantes a colaborar na marca foram Luka Bogdanović (3/7), Clay Tucker (3/9), David Jelinek (1/3) e Pere Tomàs (1/3).)

Latvian Kristaps Valters will remain in the Spanish league but with a different jersey. Joventut signed the 27-year-old guard for two seasons after playing for Fuenlabrada last season.
Son of one of the best players to come out of the USSR, Valdis Valters, Kristaps is a product of ASK Riga and played 32 games in ACB this season, averaging 11.1 points, 4.8 assists and 3.2 rebounds, shooting 48% from beyond the arc. Before playing in Spain the Latvia international was in Efes Pilsen, Skonto Riga, Oldenburg, Udine and Triumph Lyubersty.

News: Rubio in the NBA next season (Notícia: Rubio na NBA na próxima época)

The Spanish sensation Ricky Rubio confirmed he'll declare for the NBA draft this year. Moreover, the guard said he's ready to play in the NBA next season. After a meeting with Joventut's president, former player Jordi Villacampa and his agent in the United States, Rubio took the decision of taking part in the player selection to take place by the end of June.
The 18-year-old feels ready and prepared for the NBA challenge and said his decision was based on what he feels, especially after the Beijing Olympics (when he made his debut with the Spanish national team), as he felt he was able to play against the best players in the world. The still Joventut player also added he expects to be a top pick and thanked the club for which he debuted in ACB at the age of 14 (a league record).
Rubio already had hinted about entering the draft when it was made known he would play the Reebok Eurocamp in Treviso, a tournament generally designed for players with high possibilites of joining the NBA in the short run.
In 19 games so far in the ACB season, Rubio averaged 9.9 points, 5.7 assists and 2.1 steals.

(A sensação espanhola Ricky Rubio confirmou que participará no "draft" deste ano da NBA. Para além disso, o base afirmou estar pronto para jogar na NBA na próxima época. Após uma reunião com o presidente do Joventut, o antigo jogador Jordi Villacampa, e o seu agente nos Estados Unidos, Rubio tomou a decisão de fazer parte da escolha de jogadores, a ter lugar no fim de Junho.
O jogador de 18 anos sente-se apto e preparado para o desafio da NBA, tendo afirmado que a sua decisão se baseou no que sente, especialmente depois dos Jogos Olímpicos de Pequim (onde fez a estreia pela selecção espanhola), já que sentiu ser capaz de jogar contra os melhores jogadores do mundo. O ainda jogador do Joventut acrescentou também que espera ser uma das primeiras escolhas e agradeceu ao clube pelo qual se estreou na ACB com 14 anos (um recorde na liga).
Rubio tinha já sugerido uma entrada no "draft" quando foi tornado público que participaria no Reebok Eurocamp em Treviso, um torneio destinado, em geral, a jogadores com hipóteses de jogar na NBA a curto prazo.
Em 19 jogos até ao momento na ACB, Rubio obteve médias de 9,9 pontos, 5,7 assistências e 2,1 roubos de bola.)

News: Joventut signs Coby Karl (Notícia: Joventut contrata Coby Karl)

Spanish ACB side Joventut signed 25-year-old American forward Coby Karl until the end of the season. Karl was playing in the NBA's D-League for Idaho Stampede where he averaged 18.6 points, 5.5 assists, 4.4 rebounds and 1.5 steals over 22 games. Joventut looks, therefore, to strengthen their perimeter zone with the former Lakers player and son of famous NBA coach George Karl.
The club is currently 5th in ACB and recently failed to qualify for the Euroleague's Top 16 stage.

(O Joventut da ACB espanhola contratou o extremo norte-americano Coby Karl, de 25 anos, até ao fim da época. Karl encontrava-se a jogar pelo Idaho Stampede da D-League da NBA com médias de 18,6 pontos, 5,5 assistências, 4,4 ressaltos e 1,5 roubos de bola em 22 jogos. O Joventut procura, assim, reforçar a zona exterior com o antigo jogador dos Lakers e filho do famoso treinador da NBA George Karl.
O clube encontra-se actualmente na 5ª posição da ACB e falhou recentemente a qualificação para a fase Top 16 da Euroliga.)
