In a selection made by coaches, Partizan's Novica Veličković was named the best young player of the Euroleague in the 2008-2009 season, succeeding Danilo Gallinari. The 22-year-old forward led the "black and whites" to the playoff quarter-finals for the second consecutive year, topscoring the team with 11.5 points per game and being second rebound-wise (5.1 on average). Moreover, in the youth rich team, the Serbian was among the best three players in steals, assists and blocks and was among the best 25 players regarding points scored and rebounds. He also named the MVP for the month of February.
Recently linked with a move to Russian powerhouse CSKA Moscow, the 2.05m Serbian averaged 11.5 points, 5.1 rebounds, 1.8 assists and nearly 1 steal in 19 games.
The second spot of the choice belonged to forward Ersan İlyasova (Barcelona) and Spanish Sergio Llull (Real Madrid), while the third place was for another Partizan player, Milenko Tepić.

Associado recentemente a uma transferência para o gigante russo CSKA de Moscovo, o sérvio de 2,05 m acumulou médias de 11,5 pontos, 5,1 ressaltos, 1,8 assistências e quase 1 roubo de bola em 19 jogos.
O segundo lugar da escolha pertenceu ao extremo Ersan İlyasova (Barcelona) e ao espanhol Sergio Llull (Real Madrid), sendo a terceira posição ocupada por outro jogador do Partizan, Milenko Tepić.)
