News: Letuni to undergo operation (Notícia: Letuni será operado)

Congolese giant Bienvenue Letuni will undergo a brain surgery in January in order to remove a small tumour. This operation is intended to stop the growth (he already stands 2.24m tall) of the 15-year-old and allow him to start developing his basketball skills. Joventut, the Spanish club which ended up tieing Letuni, after some trials also with Baskonia, will pay for all of costs of the treatment and follow the player closely after the procedure. The operation will be similar to that made to Roberto Dueñas or Gheorghe Mureşan, who also suffered from gigantism.
Possessing a wingspan of 2.40m, Letuni started playing basketball just eight months ago after he stood out in the Democratic Republic of Congo obviously because of his height and age. After the surgery Joventut will ponder if Letuni is ready to play in the younger teams of the club.

Esta operação destina-se a interromper o crescimento (que já alcança os 2,24 m) do jovem de 15 anos e permitir o início do desenvolvimento das suas aptidões para o basquetebol. O Joventut, clube espanhol que acabou por contratar Letuni, depois de alguns testes também junto do Baskonia, vai pagar todos as despesas do tratamento e seguir de perto o jogador após o processo. A operação será semelhante à realizada a Roberto Dueñas ou Gheorghe Mureşan, que também padeciam de gigantismo.
Com uma envergadura de 2,40 m, Letuni começou a jogar basquetebol apenas há oito meses, depois de se ter destacado na República Democrática do Congo devido, obviamente, à sua altura e idade. Após a cirurgia, o Joventut irá ponderar a inclusão de Letuni nas camadas jovens do clube.)

Once in a while there comes an extremely tall youngster from Africa and Spain has been grabbing quite a few in the last few years. After Algerian Saad Kaiche now comes a 15-year-old from the Democratic Republic of Congo called Bienvenue Letuni, who already stands 2.24m with a wingspan of 2.40m.
Baketball is something for Letuni, who started played only around six months ago and has been receiving the support and guidance of a former player, Anicet Lavodrama from the Central African Republic. For now he performed some tests with ACB's Joventut and will also for Baskonia. Depending on the results, which seemed positive, and working conditions offered, he will decide about his future with the NBA in mind, like Congolese Serge Ibaka (Oklahoma City Thunder), of whom he is an admirer.
Letuni suffers from gigantism and will predictably undergo treatment to hinder his growing.

Depois do argelino Saad Kaiche, eis que aparece um jovem de 15 anos da República Democrática do Congo de nome Bienvenue Letuni, que já mede 2,24 m com uma envergadura de 2,40 m.
O basquetebol é algo de novo para Letuni, que começou a jogar há cerca de seis meses e tem recebido o apoio e a orientação de um antigo jogador, Anicet Lavodrama, da República Centro-Africana. Para já, realizou alguns testes no Joventut e o mesmo acontecerá com o Baskonia, ambos da ACB. Em função dos resultados, que pareceram positivos, e das condições oferecidas, o jovem decidirá sobre o seu futuro com a NBA como meta, tal como fez o congolês Serge Ibaka (Oklahoma City Thunder), de quem é admirador.
Letuni sofre de gigantismo e irá muito provavelmente ser submetido a tratamento para travar o seu crescimento.)

After 18 seasons in the NBA, Dikembe Mutombo was forced to abandon competition. The 2.18m centre injured his left knee in the second game of the playoffs first round as his team, the Houston Rockets, played against the Portland Trail Blazers. After getting tangled with Blazers' Greg Oden, Mutombo fell hard on his knee and had to be taken on a stretcher. At 42, and currently the NBA's oldest player, Mutombo immediately realised his career had ended, as the doctors diagnosed a knee strain.
The DR Congo native was part of the All-Star for eight times and was named Defensive Player of the Year on four occasions, having estbalished himself as a strong shotblocker, standing second in the all-time list with 3.289 blocks. In his long carrer, Mutombo had averages of 9.8 points, 10.3 rebounds, 2.7 blocks and 1.0 assists in 1.196 games for the Denver Nuggets, Atlanta Hawks, Philadelphia 76ers, New Jersey Nets, New York Knicks and the Rockets.

News: Rockets get Mutombo back at 42 (Notícias: Rockets recuperam Mutombo aos 42)

The Houston Rockets re-signed veteran Dikembe Mutombo until the end of the season. The 42-year-old centre played 39 games last year for Houston averaging 3 points, 5.1 rebounds and 1.2 blocks per game as a backup to Yao Ming. Mutombo, who considered retirement some months ago, was also targeted by reigning champions Boston Celtics among others, but finally decided for his previous team, where he played the last four seasons. The Congolose will, therefore, play his 18th season in the NBA and will be the oldest active player in the league.
