The Spanish sensation Ricky Rubio confirmed he'll declare for the NBA draft this year. Moreover, the guard said he's ready to play in the NBA next season. After a meeting with Joventut's president, former player Jordi Villacampa and his agent in the United States, Rubio took the decision of taking part in the player selection to take place by the end of June.
The 18-year-old feels ready and prepared for the NBA challenge and said his decision was based on what he feels, especially after the Beijing Olympics (when he made his debut with the Spanish national team), as he felt he was able to play against the best players in the world. The still Joventut player also added he expects to be a top pick and thanked the club for which he debuted in ACB at the age of 14 (a league record).
Rubio already had hinted about entering the draft when it was made known he would play the Reebok Eurocamp in Treviso, a tournament generally designed for players with high possibilites of joining the NBA in the short run.
In 19 games so far in the ACB season, Rubio averaged 9.9 points, 5.7 assists and 2.1 steals.

O jogador de 18 anos sente-se apto e preparado para o desafio da NBA, tendo afirmado que a sua decisão se baseou no que sente, especialmente depois dos Jogos Olímpicos de Pequim (onde fez a estreia pela selecção espanhola), já que sentiu ser capaz de jogar contra os melhores jogadores do mundo. O ainda jogador do Joventut acrescentou também que espera ser uma das primeiras escolhas e agradeceu ao clube pelo qual se estreou na ACB com 14 anos (um recorde na liga).
Rubio tinha já sugerido uma entrada no "draft" quando foi tornado público que participaria no Reebok Eurocamp em Treviso, um torneio destinado, em geral, a jogadores com hipóteses de jogar na NBA a curto prazo.
Em 19 jogos até ao momento na ACB, Rubio obteve médias de 9,9 pontos, 5,7 assistências e 2,1 roubos de bola.)

One of the Spanish championship contenders Unicaja Málaga is trying to negotiate the hiring of sensation Ricky Rubio. The Joventut player, whose contract was substancially improved in January and expires in 2011, is wanted by his former coach, Aíto Garcia Reneses, who plans renewing the team and have the starlet with him before a departure to the NBA. Rubio has a clause in his contract that allows him to join an NBA team if 6 million Euros are paid and there are speculations about him joining the draft already this year.

This is the second consecutive time the 18-year-old guard gets the first place in a choice made by online voting and experts picks. Rubio was part of the Spanish national team that conquered silver in the Beijing Olympics, amazing with his already mature game and was ULEB Cup (now Eurocup) champion with Joventut.
New York Knicks' player Danilo Gallinari came second in the voting and Greek Kosta Koufos third.
