Apoel Nicosia broke a seven-year drought by claiming the 2008-09 Cyprus championsip yesterday. The 79-70 win against Keravnos Strovolos sealed Apoel's third victory in the best-of-five playoff finals, making this the ninth title of the team.
Gerben van Dorpe led the champions with a double-double (14 points and 10 rebounds), while teammates Martin Zeno and Joseph Garcia had 11 and 10 points, respectively. For the runner-up, Bariša Krasić was the topscorer with 15 points, with Panagiotis Trisokkas and LaMarr Greer scoring 13 apiece.
The championsip is even more tasty, as Apoel finished the regular season fourth with 8 wins and 8 losses and everyone expected AEL Limassol to become champions.
