In the beginning of the season, few would have predicted Dynamo Moscow's elimination in the Russian Superleague quarter-finals. The team, which most notably hired the European champion coach David Blatt, former NBA players Boštjan Nachbar and Jannero Pargo (later released) and Lithuanian international Darjuš Lavrinovič fell at the hands of Spartak St Petersburg 73-68 in the second game of the playoff quarter-finals. Veteran Zakhar Pashutin poured in 16 points for Spartak, while Lavrinovič managed a double-double with 22 points and 12 rebounds in defeat. In the best-of-three series, Dynamo had already shockingly lost the first game at home 75 to 88.The investment in the team and the third place in the regular season had hinted at least a semi-final appearence, as Dynamo looked to recover it's previous status as powerhouse in Russia.

Petersburgo por 73-68 no segundo jogo dos quartos-de-final dos "playoffs". O veterano Zakhar Pashutin marcou 16 pontos para o Spartak, ao passo que Lavrinovič obteve um duplo-duplo com 22 pontos e 12 ressaltos para os derrotados. Na série à melhor de três, o Dínamo já tinha perdido surpreendentemente o primeiro jogo em casa por 75-88.
