The longest stint of a coach with the Argentinian national team came to an end. After five years, Sergio Hernández's contract with the federation will not be renewed, as the 47-year-old wanted to continue just until the 2012 London Olympics, but the federation wanted a four to six-year project. Julio Lamas (pictured) will more than probably be the new face on Argentina's bench. The current Obras Sanitarias head coach, who holds three Argentinian league titles, will return to a post he filled between 1997 and 1999. He also served as assistant at the 2008 Olympics.
Under Hernández, Argentina reached the fourth place at the 2006 World Championship, conquered the silver medal at Americas Championship in 2007, bronze at the 2008 Olympics and ended fifth at the 2010 World Championship in Turkey.
