All wins and a steady performance throughout the World Championship. This was the mark USA left in Turkey after they beat the home team 81-64 in the final played yesterday. The win came 16 years after the champions conquered their last title in 1994 before Russia.
The first-ever official game between USA and Turkey saw the Americans lift off by scoring 11 consecutive points late in the first period and in the beginning of the second. At halftime the Americans were leading by 10 (42-32) and by as many as 20 in the fourth period.
Tournament MVP Kevin Durant paced USA with 28 points and five rebounds, followed by Lamar Odon with 15 and 11 and Russel Westbrook with 13 and 6 assists. For the Turks, Hedo Türkoğlu scored 16 points and grabbed 7 rebounds, while Semih Erden netted 9, Ersan İlyasova 7 and 11 rebounds and Kerem Tunçeri 7 and 5 assists.
In the bronze medal match Lithuania edged Serbia 88-99.
