Portuguese reigning champion Benfica claimed the trophy of the first edition of the Portugal-Angola Super Cup yesterday. In the final, the Reds downed the Angolan champion 1º de Agosto 64 to 57 (35-31 at halftime). Forward Heshimu Evans, who played until last year in Angola, led Benfica with 12 points and seven rebounds, while Élvis Évora added 10 and five. Veteran Miguel Lutonda paced 1º de Agosto with 14 points and was named MVP of the tournament.In the game for the third place, Angolan runner-up Petro Luanda beat Ovarense 66-59, led by Eduardo Mingas who scored 16 points. John Waller was the best scorer for the Portuguese side with 13 points.
Next year's edition will be played in Portugal.
