Arik Shivek has been appointed as the new Israel headcoach. The 53-year-old will fulfil the vacant post left by Zvi Sherf, who left the national team after Israel ended Eurobasket this year winless. Shivek is aware of the hard task ahead for Eurobasket 2011, especially because of "a lot of good teams coming up from below", but he's confident, assuring lots of hard work.Shivek began his coaching days in 1998 back in Israel with Maccabi Ra'anana, moving then to Maccabi Ramat Gan and Hapoel Tel Aviv. Starting 2003 he coached European teams, namely Amsterdam Astronauts (Holland) and Antwerp Giants (Belgium). He was named Coach of the Year in 2005 and 2009 in the Dutch league.

O técnico de 53 anos irá ocupar o lugar deixado vago por Zvi Sherf, que se demitiu depois de Israel ter terminado o Eurobasket deste ano sem vitórias. Shivek está ciente das dificuldades que enfrentará até ao Eurobasket 2011, especialmente devido à existência de "muitas equipas em ascenção", mas permanece confiante, prometendo trabalhar arduamente.
Shivek iniciou a carreira de treinador em 1998, em Israel, ao serviço do Maccabi Ra'anana, transferindo-se depois para Maccabi Ramat Gan e Hapoel Telavive. A partir de 2003, orientou equipas europeias, nomeadamente Amsterdam Astronauts (Hollanda) e Antwerp Giants (Bélgicas). Foi eleito Treinador do Ano em 2005 and 2009, na liga holandesa.)
