The financial problems which plagued Žalgiris Kaunas may have come to an end. Businessman Vladimir Romanov and his company ŪBIG will sponsor the team and the Russian-Lithuanian will own 75% of the club, while president Arvydas Sabonis will have 21.5% of the shares.
The club had little time to overcome the poor situation, as the license to play in the Euroleague was at stake. The Lithuanian team will try to keep its current players, especially the national stars.
Romanov is known for his investment in sports clubs, as he owns Scottish football club Hearts and also helped Lithuanian football club FBK Kaunas.

O clube dispunha de pouco tempo para ultrapassar a difícil situação, uma vez que estava em causa a licença para a participação na Euroliga. A equipa lituana irá tentar manter os jogadores actuais, em especial as estrelas nacionais.
Romanov é conhecido pelo seu investimento em clubes desportivos, uma vez que é proprietário do Hearts FC e ajudou o clube de futebol lituano FBK Kaunas.)
