After spending the last four years in the NBA, Sergio Rodríguez is returning to his home country. The now former New York Knicks point guard signed a contract with Real Madrid for the next three seasons and will look to get minutes on court and the confidence of his new coach Ettore Messina, something which failed to happen in the NBA. Known by his quickness and offense-oriented game, the 24-year-old is expected to be the perfect complement for Argentinian Pablo Prigioni in the team. He will also try to recover a spot in the Spanish national team, for which he last played in the 2006 World Championship.
During his NBA days, Rodríguez wore the jerseys of the Portland Trail Blazers, Sacramento Kings and the Knicks for a short period. Before that, he played for Estudiantes where he got himself the starlet label before he was even 20. Last season he averaged 6.6 points, 3.2 assists and 1.3 rebounds over 66 games.
