News: Peković flies to the NBA

Greek champions Panathinaikos will have to do without one of their top players for the last couple of years. Centre Nikola Peković reached a verbal agreement with the Minnesota Timberwolves to play in the NBA for the next three years. The deal is worth 10.5 million Euros. The Timberwolves had picked the 24-year-old Montenegrin in the 2008 NBA draft's second round and regard him as a player "who could really help" in the words of the president of the team David Kahn.
A product of Partizan, Peković spent three seasons in the club before making the jump to powerhouse Panathinaikos which signed him in 2008. During his two years in Greece he turned to be a dominating centre in the Euroleague, averaging 14.8 points and 3.5 rebounds in 13 games last season, while shooting 60% from the field.
