Jonas Kazlauskas officially became the new Greece national team coach. This is the third time the Lithuanian takes the helm of a national team after coaching his native Lithuania (1997-2001) and China until last year. Kazlauskas takes the post held until now by Panagiotis Giannakis (who guided the team to gold in Eurobasket 2005) and declared to be "an honour and a great challenge to take the lead of the Greek national team". The 54-year-old already coached in Greece for Olympiacos and holds many titles, including 7 Lithuanian league titles, a Euroleague title in 1999 and the Asian Championship four years ago.

Trata-se da terceira vez que o lituano assume o cargo de seleccionador, depois de treinar a Lituânia (1997-2001) e a China até ao ano passado. Kazlauskas irá ocupar o cargo que até agora era de Panagiotis Giannakis (que levou a selecção ao ouro no Eurobasket 2005), declarando ser "uma honra e um grande desafio assumir a liderança da selecção grega".
O técnico de 54 anos já treinou na Grécia pelo Olympiacos e possui vários títulos, incluindo 7 de campeão da liga lituana, um título da Euroliga em 1999 e uma medalha de ouro no Campeonato Asiático há quatro anos.)
