One of the historical clubs of Australian basketball is nearing its end. The Wollongong Hawks, the only remaining team from the founding clubs of the NBL 31 years ago will not take part in next season. The 2009-2010 NBL season will have financial requirements which according to the Hawks president Richard Clifford the club will not be able to meet, others being also in difficult situations to comply with the new limitations.The Hawks' only title remains being the one achieved in 2001 and the team is currently 7th with 11 wins and 19 losses, thus being out of the playoffs if the season were to end now.
(Um dos clubes históricos do basquetebol australiano está prestes a chegar ao fim. Os Wollongong Hawks, a única equipa que resta dos clubes fundadores da NBL há 31 anos, não fará parte da próxima temporada. A época 2009-2010 da NBL terá requisitos financeiros que, de acordo com o presidente dos Hawks Richard Clifford, a equipa não estará em condições de cumprir, sendo que outras também se encontram em situação difícil para fazer face aos novos limites.
O único título dos Hawks continua a ser o conquistado em 2001 e a equipa ocupa actualmente a 7ª posição com 11 vitórias e 19 derrotas, ou seja, falharia os "playoffs" caso a época terminasse agora.)
