The NCAA player of the year distinction in the Big East conference was given to two centres: Hasheem Thabeet and DeJuan Blair. The players met twice this season, and Blair had the upper hand leading the Pittsburgh Panthers to two wins. In one of the games, the 19-year-old player had a double-double, scoring 30 points and grabbing 31 rebounds. In the regular season, Blair had an average of 15.6 points and a league best 12.4 rebounds per game, while the Tanzanian had 13.6 points, 10.8 rebounds and 4.5 blocks per game. The 2.21m Connecticut Huskies player was also named conference defensive player of the year for the second consecutive time, with 94 blocks this season (he's already the all-time second, behind legendary Patrick Ewing), and will apply for the NBA draft this summer.
