News: Steve Francis set to join Shanghai

Former NBA point guard Steve Francis is set to play this season in the Chinese CBA. The 33-year-old, who has not played professionaly since 2008, will sign a two-year deal with Shanghai worth nearly 3 million euros and join Stephon Marbury, another former NBA All-Star. Francis is expected to land in China next week.
A product of the University of Maryland, Francis was selected by the then Vancouver Grizzlies in the 1999 NBA draft, but he would end up with the Houston Rockets, where he earned Rookie of the Year honours in 2000. Later he moved to the Orlando Magic and the New York Knicks before returning to the Rockets for the 2007-2008 season. In nine years in the NBA, Francis averaged 18.1 points, 6 assists, 5.6 rebounds and 1.5 steals.
Last season Shanghai reached the playoff semi-finals of the CBA, where they fell to reigning champions Guangdong.
