In a complete turnaround of what was taken as a certainty, Sofoklis Schortsanitis will not be with Panathinaikos next season and will in fact leave Greece. The Greek national team centre officially signed a two-year deal worth around 1 million and 200 thousand euros with Israeli giants Maccabi Tel Aviv. The decision to move abroad was take by the 25-year-old himself, who is determined to "do everything to glorify the name of the club."
Named the MVP of the Greek All-Star game last season, Sofo averaged of 7.2 points and 2.5 rebounds in the Euroleague. Previously he wore the jerseys of Aris, Cantù and Iraklis.
Next season Maccabi will look to recover the title lost to Galil Gilboa.
