Brazil captured its 18th South American Championship title and stole the trophy from the previous title holders. In the final played on Saturday, the Brazilians downed the Argentinians 87 to 77 in a match that was even only in the first half. In fact, Argentina lost the first period by just one point (19-18) and trailed by nine at halftime. In the remaining periods the champions managed to keep a safe distance almost always with a 10-point margin.
Murilo Becker, named the MVP of the tournament, led Brazil scoring 30 points and grabbing 10 rebounds, while Duda Machado added 15 points and 5 assists and João Paulo Batista 13 points and 5 rebounds. For the Argentinians, the best scorer was Juan Pablo Cantero with 25 points, followed by Leonardo Mainoldi with 14 and Román González with less three.
Both national teams presented a B version in the tournament.
In the bronze medal game, Uruguay defeated Venezuela 76-70.
