News: USA claims gold at Women's World Championship

The USA women's national team bounced back from the 2006 bronze medal to claim gold and succeed Australia at the World Championships held in the Czech Republic. In the final against the home team, the Americans dominated and ended up winning 89-69, completing their participation unbeaten and with an eighth title. At halftime the champions were leading by just five (40-35).
Angel McCoughtry paced the Americans with 18 points, followed by Diana Taurasi with less two, Tina Charles with a double-double (13 points and 10 rebounds) and Sue Bird with 11 points and 5 steals. For the Czechs, Petra Kulichová scored 14 points, grabbed 5 boards and blocked 3 shots, while Hana Horáková (named tournament MVP) added 12 points, 5 assists and 3 steals and Tereza Pecková 11 points.
In the bronze medal game Spain beat Belarus 77-68.
